How to Create Commercial Splashing into Liquid Effect in Photoshop

This advanced tutorial will show you how to create commercial splash effect that can be used in cream, shampoo or any other liquid product showcase. This tutorial will require:

  • Adobe Photoshop (with some level of understanding it)
  • Pictures of splashes
  • Picture of a product

01. As always, first you’ll need to create a new document. Then color the background pure black.

02. Set the background color to black and foreground to white. Now go to Filter > Render > Difference Clouds and random clouds will be generated.

03. Soften the clouds much at Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur.

04. Now add your product on the very top of every layer. Make sure the product is cut out. Then add some water or milk splashes under the product. Just add many different ones and make them fit with each-other by rotating, cutting and resizing. On this picture, 4 splashes have been added – 2 at the top and 2 at the bottom.

05. Take the eraser tool to delete any unnecessary part of the splash. Also, be sure the splashes lay UNDER the bottle layer.

06. Now create a new layer and place it under your product layer. Then fill the new layer with any color of your wish and set it to Color so that all the splashes and background changes.

07. Merge all the splash layers into one, take the dodge tool and lighten only the outside edges of the splash if they aren’t so already.

08. Now take the Burn tool and darken all the inner parts of the splashes that touch the bottle.

09. Add some Shadow under the splash at Layer > Layer Style > Drop Shadow. Press Ok.

10. Now use the burn tool to make the sides of the product darker and you are done!
